Phyllis N. Bonaminio, MD

Rheumatology

Dr. Bonaminio joined Parkview Orthopaedic Group on April 4, 2016. She is Board Certified in the medical subspecialty of Rheumatology, which involves the diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of rheumatic diseases. These diseases include anything involving bones, joints and tendons, as well connective tissue disorders or “autoimmune” diseases.

Her areas of clinical interest include osteoarthritis or degenerative joint diseases; inflammatory arthritis including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and inflammatory bowel disease-related arthritis such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis; bone thinning disorders such as osteoporosis or osteopenia and any related fracture; and crystal-related arthritis such as gout.

Diagnostic tools are on-site at Parkview Orthopaedic Group and include x-ray, MRI, and a bone density machine capable of performing DEXA scans and vertebral fracture assessments.

Treatment options depend on the disease. Dr. Bonaminio offers same-day ultrasound guided cortisone (steroid) injections for any joint and additional “gel” injection options for knees.

Dr. Bonaminio now offers supervised on-site infusions of Remicade, Orencia, Actemra or zolendronic acid at the Palos Heights office. These infusions are used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease-related arthritis and osteoporosis.

Physical and occupational therapy is available at all office locations. Pain management referrals to our two Pain Specialists capable of sedated, fluoroscopic guided back injections are also available.

If all conservative treatment options are exhausted and surgery is the next option, a seamless transition can be made to one of the 13 orthopaedic surgeons in the practice. Besides the ability to have face-to-face conversations regarding the transfer of care, with Electronic Medical Records, the surgeon will also have access to all of your records and diagnostics regardless of the office location chosen.

Ultimately, Dr. Bonaminio’s goal is to utilize all means possible to preserve and regain function, prevent long-term damage when possible, and maintain autonomy and independence for a happy and healthy joint life.
